These Are the People in Your Neighbourhood

Checkpoint Helsinki together with Helsinki Festival brings Toronto collective Mammalian Diving Reflex's work These Are the People in Your Neighbourhood to Vuosaari neighborhood. In the work, 10 to 11 years old children have been introduced to their own city district, its unique features and its local companies, services and people. Based on their experiences, the children have planned a walking tour around the area. 

This community-enriching work highlights the characteristics of the city through walking tours planned by the children themselves. The tours, which all end with a block party, show us a world in which we are better acquainted with the residents and businesses in our own neighbourhoods.

Founded in 1993, Mammalian Diving Reflex is a research-art atelier dedicated to investigating the social sphere, always on the lookout for contradictions to whip into aesthetically scintillating experiences.
